Basketball Recap: Laila Alexander's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Brighton over Mountain Range

Brighton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took a 38-29 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mountain Range Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-38 back in January.

Brighton lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Laila Alexander, who posted nine points along with seven boards and five steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Haleyanna Martin was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to ten rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Brighton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain Range to victory, but perhaps none more so than Josieraye Running Wolf, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Liliana Jaramillo, who put up eight points.

Brighton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Mountain Range, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8.

Brighton has already played their next matchup, a 39-23 victory against Prairie View on the 6th. As for Mountain Range, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 73-48 loss against Boulder on the 6th.
