Basketball Recap: Byram Hills Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

On Monday, the Byram Hills Bobcats greeted the New Year with with a 65-51 victory over the Barack Obama School for Social Justice Lightning. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while the Lightning are ranked 331st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Defeat or not, Barack Obama School for Social Justice got some senior leadership from Seediya Jabbi and Raheem Azeez. Jabbi posted ten points and seven rebounds, while Azeez had 14 points and seven rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for Azeez. Zaylin Mullins was another key player, putting up eight points.

Byram Hills' win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Barack Obama School for Social Justice, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Byram Hills Bobcats take on the Walter Panas Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Barack Obama School for Social Justice, they will face off against Woodlands at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
