Basketball Recap: Wade Hull Key Part of a Team Effort in Eagles Win

Thatcher posted their closest win since February 8, 2024 on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tanque Verde Hawks, sneaking past 76-73. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Eagles were down 45-26 in the second quarter.

Thatcher's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wade Hull, who went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chad Johnson, who posted 16 points in addition to eight assists and seven rebounds.

Thatcher was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tanque Verde only racked up 15 assists.

Tanque Verde lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Philip Knott, who went 9 for 16 en route to 24 points. Knott is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Enzo Castillo was another key player, going 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points and five boards.

Thatcher has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points per game. As for Tanque Verde, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-10.

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Thatcher Eagles face off against the Empire Ravens at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thatcher has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Tanque Verde, they will welcome Palo Verde at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Palo Verde's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
