Soccer Game Preview: Union Pines vs. Carrboro

The Union Pines Vikings will square off against the Carrboro Jaguars on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Union Pines comes in on 12 and Carrboro on 20.

Union Pines is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Swansboro get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Union Pines, who have now won 14 matchups by three goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, while the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was Carrboro who was credited with the win on Thursday. The Jaguars got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to Eastern Alamance's one. The victory was all the more spectacular given Carrboro's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Eastern Alamance are ranked 17th).

Union Pines' win was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 65 goals over those 12 games. As for Carrboro, their win bumped their record up to 21-0-1.

Union Pines came up short against Carrboro in their previous matchup back in March, falling 3-1. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
