Flag Football Game Preview: Elk Grove Thundering Herd vs. Pleasant Grove Eagles

Elk Grove hasn't had much luck against Pleasant Grove recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Thundering Herd will take on the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Elk Grove comes in on three and Pleasant Grove on seven.

On Tuesday, Elk Grove earned an 18-8 win over Franklin. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Thundering Herd's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Wildcats are ranked 452nd).

One reason for the win was Elk Grove's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Kyleann Baird.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pleasant Grove). They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Laguna Creek 45-6. Considering the Eagles have won eight contests by more than 19 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Pleasant Grove didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Kate Myers led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by herself. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 104 rushing yards per game.

Elk Grove's record is now 10-3. As for Pleasant Grove, their record now sits at 12-3.

Elk Grove suffered a grim 40-20 defeat to Pleasant Grove when the teams last played back in September. Can the Thundering Herd avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
