Softball Recap: Sunlake Makes It Nine in a Row at Home

There's no place like home for Sunlake, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Zephyrhills Bulldogs 4-3. The Seahawks haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Sydney Walker looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sunlake's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Zoey Cropper, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. The dominant performance gave Cropper a new career-high in RBI. Ava Rapp also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Sunlake pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Zephyrhills, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Sunlake will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Wiregrass Ranch at 8:00 p.m. on March 25th. After both having extra time off, Zephyrhills and Land O' Lakes will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:30 p.m. on March 25th. Zephyrhills is facing Land O' Lakes at the right time seeing as Land O' Lakes is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
