Football Recap: Jacksonville Crimsons vs. Richland County Tigers
With a playoff win on the line, Jacksonville rose to the challenge on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Richland County Tigers, sneaking past 41-39. The win was familiar territory for the Crimsons, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Jacksonville found their leader in sophomore Jeremiah Jackson, who rushed for 190 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries, and also picked up 40 receiving yards. Jackson is becoming a predictor of the Crimsons' success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Darren Henry, who rushed for 74 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries.
Jacksonville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 441 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richland County only rushed for 195.
One reason for the win was Jacksonville's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for 3.5 sacks. Eli Musamba refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Another thorn in Richland County's side was Musamba, who picked up 1.5 sacks and made eight total tackles (4.0 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception.
Loss or not, Richland County got some senior leadership from Gavyn Cothern and Ian Pianfetti. Cothern rushed for 106 yards and four scores, while Pianfetti gained 245 total yards and two touchdowns. Cothern also set a new season-high mark in passing yards with 308.
Jacksonville's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Richland County, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.
Looking ahead, Jacksonville will take on Cahokia at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Richland County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
