Basketball Recap: Smithville Seminoles vs. Houlka Wildcats
The Smithville Seminoles have not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. Everything went their way against Houlka on Tuesday as Smithville made off with a 48-26 win. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Smithville just coasted through the last quarter.
Mikayla Wall was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mary Haley Hood, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Houlka's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Olivia Halford, who scored 15 points, and Madison Martin who scored two points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Smithville has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-16 record this season. As for Houlka, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-21.
Smithville will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. As for Houlka, they and the Cougars will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. South Pontotoc presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Wildcats in Mississippi (the Cougars are ranked 57th, while the Wildcats are ranked 299th).
