Softball Recap: Goddard Rockets vs. Artesia Bulldogs
Goddard had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 13-10 to make it four. They came up short against the Artesia Bulldogs, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, with their most recent defeat being a 7-0 loss on Friday.
As for Artesia, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.
For Artesia's part, Kayden Apodaca made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Apodaca has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Jenna Whitmire was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kambry Collins, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Goddard didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-7 victory against Portales on the 29th. As for Artesia, they have also already played their next contest, a 7-1 win against Lovington on the 29th.
