Softball Recap: Rice Memorial Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Milton

Rice Memorial faced Milton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Green Knights blew past the Yellowjackets 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Green Knights, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Bella Messineo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alayna Havreluk, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since May 1st. Another player making a difference was Lynsey Nagle, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Rice Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .511 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Rice Memorial has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Milton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Rice Memorial will be playing at home against Enosburg Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Milton, they will take on Middlebury at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
