Baseball Recap: New Athens Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

New Athens lost to Marissa/Coulterville on Wednesday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets walked away with a 4-1 win over the Meteors.

Carson Lauer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brodie Sieber was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

New Athens pushed their record up to 12-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Marissa/Coulterville, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.

Coming up, New Athens will head out to square off against Metro-East Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Knights have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Marissa/Coulterville, they will be playing at home against Trico at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
