Baseball Recap: New Athens Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

After losing to Marissa/Coulterville the last time they met, New Athens decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Yellow Jackets walked away with a 4-1 win over the Meteors on Thursday.

Carson Lauer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brodie Sieber was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

New Athens' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-8. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Marissa/Coulterville, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-5.

New Athens has already played their next matchup, an 11-7 loss against Metro-East Lutheran on the 19th. As for Marissa/Coulterville, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-6 victory against Trico on the 19th.
