Softball Recap: Wellsville's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Wellsville dropped their record down to 18-3 on Saturday, which also ended the team's ten-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Haverling Rams by a score of 4-2. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Makenna Dunbar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Wellsville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Teagan Burke, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Haverling, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

On Haverling's side, Kaili Witherell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Witherell was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Wellsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Haverling, they have already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against Fredonia on the 4th.
