Basketball Recap: Shawnee Extends Road Winning Streak to Three

Cobden came into Thursday's matchup looking for another win against Shawnee, but Emma Young wouldn't allow it. The Shawnee Redskins secured a 39-33 W over the Cobden Appleknockers on Thursday thanks in part to Young, who posted 19 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Young is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Cobden still got an impressive performance from Natalie Franklin, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 boards. With that strong performance, Franklin is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Shawna Burgess was another key player, putting up two points and 11 rebounds.

Shawnee's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points per game. As for Cobden, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Shawnee will take on Century at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Century will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Shawnee surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cobden, they and Galatia/Thompsonville will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.
