Basketball Game Preview: Hillsboro Hiltoppers vs. Greenville Comets

Having just played yesterday, the Hillsboro Hiltoppers will jump right back in to play the Greenville Comets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Hillsboro's tournament run continued when they took on Mattoon on Monday. Hillsboro received a blow as they fell 66-51 to Mattoon. The Hiltoppers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Greenville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 49-42 to Mattoon. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Comets came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Greenwave are ranked 443rd).

Greenville's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Hillsboro, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.

Hillsboro came up short against Greenville in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 44-33. Can Hillsboro avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
