The South Ripley Raiders are taking a road trip to face off against the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. South Ripley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
South Ripley gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past South Decatur 23-6. The high-scoring effort was just what the Raiders needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Gabe Stone was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenton Smith, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
South Ripley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Decatur struck out nine times.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Jac-Cen-Del ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Southwestern 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted against the Rebels since May 7, 2021.
The team relied heavily on Blake Wagner, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
The victory made it two in a row for Jac-Cen-Del and bumps their season record up to 8-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for South Ripley, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. South Ripley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .476. However, it's not like Jac-Cen-Del struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Ripley came out on top in a nail-biter against Jac-Cen-Del in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
