Softball Recap: Oak Ridge's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Oak Ridge's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rockwood Tigers a 13-0 shutout. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Emmerson Bradshaw made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Gloria Rust was a standout: she scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Taryn McGuire was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Oak Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Oak Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 4-12. As for Rockwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.

Oak Ridge and Rockwood could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. The Wildcats will challenge Halls at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (228 vs. 7). Meanwhile, Rockwood (ranked 294th) will meet Oakdale (ranked 104th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
