Softball Recap: Newport Has No Trouble Against North Marion

Newport made up a huge gap compared to their last game against North Marion, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cubs blew past the Huskies 13-4 on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cubs needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Olivia Greenawald was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Addison Taylor was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season. Ivy Ruddiman was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple.

Newport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .487. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Newport's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for North Marion, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

Coming up, Newport will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Sweet Home at 5:00 p.m. As for North Marion, they will square off against Stayton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Huskies' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
