Baseball Recap: Westwood Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lake Worth Christian last Friday, Westwood came back down to earth. The Westwood Panthers fell 12-7 to the Sebastian River Sharks on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Westwood got a good showing from Sam Whittaker, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Whittaker has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, OJ Bell and Marquez Burgess stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bell scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Burgess scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Burgess a new career-high in hits (two).

Westwood's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Sebastian River, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westwood will head out to take on Glades Central at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Sebastian River, they will take on South Fork at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
