Basketball Recap: Caldwell Comes Up Short

Caldwell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-45 heartbreaker at the hands of the Monroe Central Seminoles. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Redskins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-33 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Caldwell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Breighlee Moracco posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. Moracco is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Lexi Franklin was another key player, putting up eight points along with seven assists and three blocks.

Caldwell's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Monroe Central, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Caldwell and Monroe Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. Caldwell will challenge Shenandoah at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday down 357 places (586 vs. 229). Meanwhile, Monroe Central (ranked 172nd) will meet Wheeling Central Catholic (ranked 31st) at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
