Volleyball Preview: Lawrence County Cougars vs. Salem Wildcats
The Lawrence County Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Salem Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
It was a proper cat-fight when Lawrence County challenged Columbia on Tuesday. The Cougars fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 3-2.
Lawrence County took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 29-27, 15-11.
Despite the loss, Lawrence County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kylee McLeod had 17 digs and two aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Adaya Ball, who had four digs and three aces.
Meanwhile, Salem beat Mississippi School for the Deaf 2-0 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Salem easily took the second set, but they let things get interesting in the other. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-8.
Salem's victory bumped their record up to 18-6. As for Lawrence County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-5 record this season.
