Basketball Recap: Millwood Takes a Loss

Millwood was the 52-42 winner over Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot when they last played one another back in January of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. The Millwood Bobcats had to suffer through a 59-21 loss at the hands of the Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Millwood saw an underclassman step up: sophomore James Mcrae posted six points and 11 boards. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Mcrae. Hazem Elkarim was another key player, putting up two points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Millwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Leading Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot to victory were John Loftin and Taylor Hamner. Loftin went 6 for 11 en route to 16 points in addition to seven assists and four steals, while Hamner went 7 of 17 on his way to 18 points. Loftin has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Emanuel Wright, who put up 12 points.

Millwood's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3.

Millwood wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-13 win against The New Community School on the 27th. Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot has also already played their next contest, a 59-52 loss against Kenston Forest on the 24th.
