Recap: Amphitheater Panthers vs. Rio Rico Hawks
The Amphitheater Panthers fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They took their contest on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 38-7 win over Rio Rico. The result was nothing new for Amphitheater, who have now won five contests by 25 points or more so far this season.
Amphitheater can attribute much of their success to Imanol Silva, who rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes. Rudy Rios also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
When it comes to explaining why Rio Rico lost, one person who can't be blamed is Hiram Lopez. Despite the final result, he rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Amphitheater has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Rio Rico, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.
Amphitheater will look to defend their home field on Friday against Sahuarita at 7:00 p.m. As for Rio Rico, they will head out on the road to face off against Empire at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Empire is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
