Basketball Recap: Wilcox County Takes a Loss

Wilcox County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-58 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wheeler County Bulldogs. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Wilcox County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jackson Smith, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. What's more, Smith also racked up two assists, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tyler Tisdol, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 17 points.

Even though they lost, Wilcox County was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Wheeler County found their leader in sophomore Michael Wright Jr., who posted 29 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyree Travis, who scored 13 points and six boards.

Wilcox County's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Wheeler County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.

Wilcox County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-40 victory against Telfair County on the 17th. As for Wheeler County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-52 win against Montgomery County on the 17th.
