Baseball Game Preview: Deer Valley Skyhawks vs. Westview Knights

Deer Valley is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will head out to take on the Westview Knights at 3:45 p.m.

On Friday, Deer Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Lakewood and fell 6-4.

Hunter Metz and Nate Gentz did some serious damage despite the final result: Metz went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, while Gentz went 1-for-4 with one home run. Those two doubles gave Metz a new career-high. Bryan Burnett was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Westview gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mohave, sneaking past 7-5.

Ghael Beltran made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Justin Marquez was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. Westview is undefeated when Marquez posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Perez, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

Westview now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Deer Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7-1.

Deer Valley took their win against Westview when the teams last played back in April of 2016 by a conclusive 10-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Deer Valley since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
