Basketball Game Preview: Erie Tigers vs. Mead Mavericks

Erie hasn't had much luck against Mead recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Erie Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the Mead Mavericks at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Erie will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Monarch, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. Erie came out on top against Monarch by a score of 57-45 on Friday. That 12 point margin sets a new team best for the Tigers this season.

Erie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Garrett Owen led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Smith, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards.

Meanwhile, Mead waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They walked away with a 69-59 win over the Golden Eagles.

Erie better keep an eye on Matthew Angelo. He was instrumental in Mead's win, going 8 of 11 on his way to 26 points and seven rebounds. Angelo's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was George Hubert, who posted 11 points and five assists.

Erie's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Mead, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Erie has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Mead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Erie beat Mead 66-58 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Will Erie repeat their success, or does Mead have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
