The Bloomington South Panthers will face off against the Bloomfield Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bloomington South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Bloomington South is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Linton-Stockton just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Miners by a score of 6-5.
Bloomington South got a good showing from Shilo Rockhill, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Rockhill has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Bloomington South saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Larkyn Ivey, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs. Another was Carly Reed, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bloomfield entered their contest against North Knox on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Cardinals fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 5-4.
Lila Koontz was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off three hits. Koontz was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Zylah Hendricks was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gwenavere Klun, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Bloomfield's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Bloomington South, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bloomington South hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like Bloomfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bloomington South took their win against Bloomfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-2 score. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
