Recap: Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds vs. Red Lake Warriors

The Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their seventh straight loss. They took a hard 102-85 fall against Red Lake. While losing is never fun, Mahnomen/Waubun can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 338th, while Red Lake is ranked 115th).

Red Lake had a senior duo take command as Jack Brown went 12 for 23 from beyond the arc en route to 45 points and 3 assists and Gerald Kingbird jr dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrone Beaulieu Jr, who scored 13 points along with two steals.

Mahnomen/Waubun bumped their record down to 3-11 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.1 points per game. As for Red Lake, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-3.

Mahnomen/Waubun won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Win-E-Mac at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. One thing working in Win-E-Mac's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Red Lake won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Deer River at 7:15 p.m. on January 16th. One thing working in Deer River's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 games.
