Football Recap: Kaleb Mcintyre and Coby Hayes Pace Riverdale Defense

Riverdale and Cypress Lake pushed the score to 43-27 the last time they played Cypress Lake, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Raiders took a 14-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. The match marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Riverdale lost, don't look at Lovensky Blanchard. Despite the final result, he rushed for 137 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Blanchard's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 104 rushing yards. Josiah Bataille helped out on the ground, rushing for 86 yards.

Even if they lost, Riverdale's defense still kept up the pressure with 7.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Kaleb McIntyre and Coby Hayes, who racked up 4.5 sacks between them.

Nolan McKinnon had a dynamite game For Cypress Lake., picking up 95 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. McKinnon showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 58 yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Riverdale fell to 4-1. As for Cypress Lake, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-2.

Riverdale and Cypress Lake will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Raiders will face off against rival East Lee County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Cypress Lake is set to square off against their familiar foe Estero at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
