Softball Game Preview: Danville Little Johns vs. Hector Wildcats

The Danville Little Johns will head out on the road to take on the Hector Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday, Danville and Westside finished up their matchup with a 5-5 tie.

Meanwhile, Hector had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They beat the Tigers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-1. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 12 games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Sarena Myers made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Hector got a massive performance out of Addison Campbell, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Abigail Dodson, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.

Hector always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .625 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Hector's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. Danville's draw gives them a new season record of 0-10-1.

Danville suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Hector in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Little Johns avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
