The Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) Stallions will challenge the St. Brendan Sabres at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Last Wednesday, Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) made easy work of Somerset Academy and carried off an 11-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Stallions.
The team relied heavily on Leilani Gonzalez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Rebhan, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only St. Brendan walked away with it. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Raiders on Monday. Considering the Sabres have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jules Miranda made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Madisyn Llerandi was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024. Gabriella Barrueta was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
St. Brendan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .760. They are 12-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
St. Brendan pushed their record up to 14-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Somerset Academy (Silver Palms), their win bumped their record up to 18-6.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like St. Brendan struggles in that department as they've averaged .379. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
