Softball Recap: St. James Takes a Loss

St. James had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 3-14 to make it ten. They came up short against the Patterson Lumberjacks, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lumberjacks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-8 two weeks ago.

Alivia Mayet was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Kiley Davis, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

As for Patterson, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

On Patterson's side, Mia Knight was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Knight was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaselynn Haven, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Kynzlie Crouch was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, St. James will be playing at home against A.J. Ellender at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Patterson, they will head out on the road to take on Hanson Memorial at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
