Softball Game Preview: Jack Britt Buccaneers vs. Ashley Screaming Eagle

The Jack Britt Buccaneers will venture away from home to challenge the Ashley Screaming Eagle at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Jack Britt is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.

Jack Britt's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Douglas Byrd 17-0. The win continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.

Katelyn Villareal made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in February. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Haylee Lamb, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ta'Niyah Turner, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Jack Britt was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .722. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Ashley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Brunswick.

Jack Britt now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Ashley, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.

Ashley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jack Britt hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. It's a different story for Ashley, though, as they've only averaged .177. Will they be able to contain Jack Britt's hitters?

Everything went Jack Britt's way against Ashley in their previous matchup back in March of 2020, as Jack Britt made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jack Britt since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
