Football Recap: North Putnam Starts Season with Defeat at Home

North Putnam unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the South Putnam Eagles on Friday, falling 53-33. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-19.

When it comes to explaining why North Putnam lost, don't look at Christian Kramer. Despite the final result, he threw for 255 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also punched in two TDs on the ground. Kramer is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last seven games he's played dating back to last season.

Ty Benton had an outrageously good game for South Putnam as he rushed for 300 yards and five scores while picking up 12.5 yards per carry. Benton showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 65 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Cline, who threw for 197 yards and three TDs on only nine passes.

North Putnam wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 57-26 win against Cloverdale on the 29th. As for South Putnam, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 65-21 victory against Greencastle on the 29th.
