Basketball Recap: Garner Comes Up Short

Garner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by the South Garner Titans and fell 90-40. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Titans are ranked 36th).

Kaitlyn Dean was Garner's leading scorer, having posted 17 points. Sade Lewis held things down on the boards with eight rebounds. Jazzmyn Ohlson took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Kimaya Barnes was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 15 points and ten boards for South Garner. Barnes has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 18 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Moore, who went 5-for-8 on her way to 12 points and seven rebounds.

Garner's defeat dropped their record down to 10-15. As for South Garner, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7.

Garner does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Garner, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 68-41 win against Corinth Holders on the 18th.
