Basketball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Edcouch-Elsa

Edcouch-Elsa won the last time they faced Mercedes and things went their way on Friday too. The Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets snuck past the Mercedes Tigers with a 65-60 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Yellowjackets.

Edcouch-Elsa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Victor Hernandez led the charge by going 6 for 13 on his way to 19 points along with eight boards and five steals. The dominant performance gave Hernandez a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jacob Uvalle, who posted 15 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Edcouch-Elsa's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Mercedes, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Edcouch-Elsa will face off against Lopez at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mercedes has already played their next game (against Rivera), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
