Basketball Recap: Jonesboro Comes Up Short

After flying high against Northside last Tuesday, Jonesboro came back down to earth. The Jonesboro Cardinals fell just short of the Griffin Bears by a score of 59-57 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cardinals have suffered since November 30, 2024.

Despite the loss, Jonesboro still got an impressive performance from Tim Prather, who went 7 of 17 on his way to 22 points. Prather is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Turman, who posted eight points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Jonesboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive games.

Jonesboro's loss dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Griffin, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-8.

Jonesboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Griffin, they and Baldwin will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Griffin has won three straight at home, while Baldwin won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
