Softball Recap: Mt. Eden Comes Up Short

Mt. Eden had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 7-9 to make it six. They lost 12-5 to the San Leandro Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-6 back in March.

Kealani Temoche was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Kailyn Trigos, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for San Leandro, their win bumped their record up to 18-4. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 14 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

On San Leandro's side, Julianna Morales spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits. Morales has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Marley Santos, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Jade Orta was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Mt. Eden wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 11-1 loss against Berkeley on the 7th. As for San Leandro, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-4 defeat against Arroyo on the 7th.
