Southwestern Heights gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Hugoton Eagles with a sharp 14-4 victory. The Mustangs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 5, 2024.

Mariah Mendoza made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits (and not a single walk). Mendoza was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Jaelynn McHenry and Melanie Cox did most of the damage at the plate: McHenry scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Cox scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
