Softball Recap: Westview's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Westview entered their tilt with Gibson County on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Pioneers. That's more bragging rights for the Chargers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Mary (Maddie) Gray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tanyla Ward and Lakyn Rogers did most of the damage at the plate: Ward scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Rogers scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Annelise Hayden, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Westview's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Gibson County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westview will face off against Ripley at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.83 runs per game on average), something the Chargers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Gibson County, they will square off against Milan at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so the Pioneers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
