Softball Recap: Granite Hills Gets the Win

While Granite Hills's victory against Victor Valley wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Granite Hills came out on top in a nail-biter against Victor Valley on Friday, sneaking past 6-4. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Jackrabbits recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Britney Zuniga spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. What's more, she gave up only two walks, the fewest she's had since back in February.

At the plate, Granite Hills got a big performance out of Kathryn (Kat) McCartney, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was MacKinzie Gomez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Granite Hills hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in three consecutive games.

Granite Hills' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Victor Valley, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.
