Baseball Recap: Keene Takes a Loss

Keene was the 7-3 winner over Salem when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Blackbirds fell 6-2 to the Blue Devils on Wednesday.

Keene got a good showing from Watson Ferguson, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Ferguson a new career-low in walks (zero).

At the plate, Keene saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sean Callahan, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Derek Wiegers also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Keene has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Salem, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-10.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Keene is set to challenge their familiar foe Goffstown at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Salem will take on rival Portsmouth at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
