Baseball Game Preview: Fairmont Firebirds vs. Troy Trojans

The Fairmont Firebirds will head out on the road to face off against the Troy Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fairmont is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.

Fairmont made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Roncalli, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Firebirds fell just short of the Royals by a score of 7-5 on Saturday.

Fairmont saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Mastro, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The Firebirds are 6-1 when Mastro posts two or more runs, but 7-14 otherwise. AJ Culbertson also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Troy got themselves on the board against Walsh Jesuit on Saturday, but Walsh Jesuit never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Warriors.

Troy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Fairmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-15.

Fairmont came out on top in a nail-biter against Troy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Firebirds since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
