Volleyball Recap: New Washington Mustangs vs. Austin Eagles
New Washington lost against Austin back in August and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Mustangs fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 2-1.
Kaylee Lawrence paced New Washington's offense, picking up 20 kills. Lawrence got some help from Addy Lathem and her 23 assists. Lawrence was also solid from the service line: she led the team with six aces.
Austin found their leader in sophomore Macey Spicer, who had 17 assists and seven digs.
New Washington has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season. As for Austin, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-13.
Coincidentally, New Washington and Austin will both be playing Southwestern the next time they take the court. The Eagles will head out to face the Rebels at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Mustangs will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
