Softball Game Preview: New Lothrop Hornets vs. Lake Fenton Blue Devils

The New Lothrop Hornets are taking a road trip to square off against the Lake Fenton Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

New Lothrop not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 29, 2024. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Hill-McCloy a 14-0 shutout. The Hornets have beaten the Rams the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rams has come to flipping the script.

Meanwhile, Lake Fenton hadn't done well against Clio recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Blue Devils walked away with a 10-7 win over the Mustangs. The victory was familiar territory for the Blue Devils, who have now won three contests in a row.

Maddie Stanton (2027) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Parker Beardsley (Mott Community Coll was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lydia Slater (2025), who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

New Lothrop now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Lake Fenton, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

New Lothrop took their victory against Lake Fenton when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
