Football Recap: Stanhope Elmore Mustangs vs. Park Crossing Thunderbirds
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stanhope Elmore). They strolled past the Park Crossing Thunderbirds with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 31-12. That's more bragging rights for the Mustangs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Arthur Mcqueen was his usual excellent self, rushing for 227 yards while picking up 14.2 yards per carry. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run. Jamari Coleman was another key player, rushing for 132 yards.
Stanhope Elmore's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Deondre Washington and Joidaden Carter-Stone. Washington also set a new season high mark in total tackles with seven. Dezmond Barnes was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making nine total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Stanhope Elmore was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 476 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 178 rushing yards in four consecutive games.
The victory got Stanhope Elmore back to even at 2-2. As for Park Crossing, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stanhope Elmore will have plenty of time to enjoy the win as they don't play again for a while.
