Softball Recap: Logansport Beats Benton Central for Their Ninth Straight Victory

Logansport waltzed into their game on Saturday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. Everything went their way against the Benton Central Bison as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The Berries might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Maddy Baumgardner tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Natalee Packard was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gracie Risley, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and five RBI.

Logansport hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive contests.

Logansport's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Benton Central, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-19.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Logansport will square off against West Lafayette at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Berries' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Devils have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Benton Central, they will face off against Frontier at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.73 runs per game on average), something the Bison will no doubt try to take advantage of.
