Baseball Recap: Kankakee Takes a Loss

Kankakee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Thornwood Thunderbirds. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunderbirds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 last Monday.

Byron Wills was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single hit while striking out nine over 5.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Kankakee's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-8 when he doesn't).

Wills wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Parker Zubrys, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base was Zubrys' first of the season.

Kankakee's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Thornwood, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.

While Kankakee had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
