Baseball Recap: Estrella Foothills Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Estrella Foothills waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They skirted past the Gila Ridge Hawks 8-6. For the Wolves, this counts as revenge for the 7-5 victory the Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2019.

Jon Bonilla was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Estrella Foothills gave Robert Gonzalez the start and clearly made the right call: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Joshua Vargas, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jose Olivas, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Estrella Foothills hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gila Ridge struck out 11 times.

Estrella Foothills' record now sits at 10-3. As for Gila Ridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Coincidentally, Estrella Foothills and Gila Ridge will both be playing Winslow the next time they take the field. The Hawks will head out to face the Bulldogs at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, while the Wolves will play them later in the day, at 12:00 p.m.
