Football Recap: Centennial Takes Down Ranked Mater Dei + How To Watch

Centennial faced Mater Dei in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Huskies walked away with a 43-36 win over the Monarchs. The Huskies' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Centennial found their leader in sophomore Malaki Davis, who rushed for 102 yards and three TDs. Those 102 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Davis. Dominick Catalano helped out on the ground, rushing for 88 yards.

Mater Dei's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, who picked up 165 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Dixon-Wyatt really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 71 yards. Another signal caller making a difference was Ryan Hopkins, who threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt.

Centennial pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.3 points over those games. As for Mater Dei, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Centennial will square off against Rancho Cucamonga at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Mater Dei, they will take on Bishop Gorman at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Monarchs will need to watch out since the Gaels have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
