Softball Game Preview: Marshall County Marshals vs. Lyon County Lyons

The Marshall County Marshals are taking a road trip to take on the Lyon County Lyons at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Marshall County's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Lyon County's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Marshall County couldn't beat Madisonville-North Hopkins on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the sixth inning. The Marshals and the Maroons finished up their game with a 5-5 tie.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lyon County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Paducah Tilghman 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lyons have posted since May 2nd.

Lilly Perry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Olivia Moore, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Sloan Cotham, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Lyon County pushed their record up to 12-15-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. Marshall County's draw gives them a new season record of 30-6-1.

Marshall County took their victory against Lyon County in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 10-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Marshals since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
